Answers to the questions we are asked most often.

Getting here

How do I get here from Dakhla airport?

Your return transfers are free of charge. The drive from the airport to Heliophora takes about 45 to 50 minutes through the desert. Send us your flight times when you book, or message us on WhatsApp.

Do I need to rent a car?

Not if you are coming to ride and relax. To explore the region, the White Dune or the desert on your own, a 4x4 is recommended: we can help you organise one.

Where is Heliophora?

At kilometre 28 on the El Argoub road, on the shore of the Dakhla lagoon, in southern Morocco.

Are children welcome?

Yes. The shallow lagoon and sheltered setting suit families well. A room can accommodate one child under 15 with two adults.

Is there a dress code?

Beachwear at the lodge and on the beach. In town and in the villages, slightly more covering clothes are appreciated, out of respect for Sahrawi culture.

Weather and the spot

What is the weather like in Dakhla?

Temperatures are mild all year round, usually between 22 and 28 °C. It is often windy: bring a windbreaker or a sweater for the evenings, and high-factor sun protection.

Who is the spot for?

All levels. The flat, shallow water is ideal for beginners, and experienced riders find an exceptional playground.

Is safety on the water assured?

Yes. Lessons are supervised by IKO and VDWS certified instructors, and a safety boat steps in if needed.

What is the best season for wind?

You can ride all year round in Dakhla. From March, the trade winds return and blow very steadily. In winter the wind is a little lighter and the Atlantic swell arrives, ideal for surfing.
